Frequently Asked Questions
A: Sensitech is the leading provider of cold chain monitoring instruments, programs, information and analysis to a broad range of customers in the food, foodservice and life science industries that are committed to protecting the freshness, integrity and efficacy of their temperature-sensitive products. Sensitech is also an active member of EPC Global, a partner with Ember Corporation, and a leader in the move to “automate the cold chain” through the use of RF-enabled instruments and radio frequency identification (RFID). Sensitech offers solutions for measuring cold chain performance wherever perishable goods are within the cold chain. Those solutions are customized along:
Sensitech’s in-transit instruments provide immediate identification of temperature and/or humidity excursions outside of acceptable levels. This information is used to determine acceptance of goods, pricing of damaged goods, and accountability for liability and insurance purposes. Our information systems allow for the efficient exchange of data between trading partners and more rapid decision making, and the ability to facilitate meaningful cold chain process improvement. Sensitech is headquartered in Beverly, Massachusetts, with offices in Redmond, Washington, and Fresno, California. The company has 190 employees, including a direct sales force in the United States and Canada. About 20 percent of Sensitech’s revenue is international, supported by distributors around the globe, with particular strengths in Europe, South Africa, Australia and Chile.
A: For core, in-transit applications, the data instrument offering includes the TempTale® line of electronic temperature and humidity monitors, the most widely used brand worldwide. Sensitech recently introduced the low-cost TagAlert® monitor, designed specifically for shipments smaller than bulk quantities. Sensitech also offers the Ryan® brand of strip chart recorders, the gold standard of analog recorders for more than 80 years. An important addition to the in-transit offering is the web-based Cold Chain Manager™ (CCM) application. CCM consolidates in-transit temperature and logistics information, providing an easy-to-use tool for data analysis and records retrieval. The company has also developed a variety of products and services to extend its coverage of the cold chain—from “farm to table” and “raw material to patient.” These include QuickCheck®, an in-process food safety management system used in a variety of restaurant and foodservice applications, and TempTale® Network™, an RF-based, web-enabled, real-time in-storage monitoring solution designed for retail and warehouse settings. Beyond its traditional in-transit monitoring programs, Sensitech offers a series of advanced solutions designed to measure critical cold chain control points, map and analyze complex cold chains, and provide process improvement, all on an outsourced basis. Sensitech’s initiative to automate the cold chain has led to the development of an RF-enabled TempTale“ capable of recording the condition, time and location of products in real time—or near real time—as they move between locations. More importantly, Sensitech is developing the applications for our customers to extract additional value from the RF-enabled devices.
Q: What makes Sensitech different? A: Sensitech provides a full line of in-transit monitors and experience in creating worldwide, information-rich cold chain monitoring programs. Its emphasis on research and development, and the adoption of new technologies such as RF and RFID further strengthens its leadership position. Sensitech’s ability to reduce the cost and improve the efficiency of its customers’ supply chains through the application of statistical process control further enhances its position in cold chain information and analysis. Sensitech’s Quality Program is second to none and it has met the intense scrutiny of more than 15 quality audits by auditing teams representing major pharmaceutical companies and their examining bodies. And, the company is pushing traditional condition monitoring to include tracking, pedigree and authentication, a set of services Sensitech refers to as Supply Chain Integrity.
